Chapter 4. Installation and set up
ACI-3144-XR Chassis User Manual
Install the chassis
You can install the chassis in a standard 19-inch rack or place it on any stable surface.
Also, ensure that the location in which you are installing the chassis has appropriate
power and ventilation.
Rack installation
Locate the rack and position where you plan to install the ACI-3144-XR chassis. Make sure
that weight is balanced evenly in the rack after you install the chassis. Uneven weight
distribution can result in a hazardous condition.
♦
To install the chassis in a standard 19-inch rack:
1. Locate the mounting brackets in the accessory box.
2. Attach two of the rack-mount flanges included in the kit to the front of the chassis.
3. Attach the remaining two rack-mount flanges to the rear of the chassis.
4. Set the chassis into position on the rack, aligning the mounting bracket holes with the
rack holes.
5. Attach the brackets to the rack, securing the chassis with the appropriate screws.
• Ensure that flanges on both the front and rear of the chassis are secured to the
rack.
• If the chassis is installed in a rack with other equipment, ensure that you do not
overload the wiring circuits. In all cases, make sure power strips and wall sockets
are grounded. See
Power and electrical specifications
on page 18 for more
information.
Table top installation
The ACI-3144-XR ships with four rubber “feet” for installation on flat surfaces.
• Do not place the chassis on any device that generates excessive heat.
• Place the chassis in a location that allows adequate air flow to the fans and
ventilation slots on the
sides
of the chassis.
• Ensure that the unit remains within the temperature limits detailed in the section
♦
To attach feet to the chassis:
1. Remove the backing from an individual foot.
2. Attach the foot to a bottom corner of the chassis.
3. Repeat these steps until you have attached all four feet to the four corners of the
chassis.
CAUTION
For installation either in a rack or on a stable surface, the
chassis
must always be
installed right-side up.
Never
install the chassis on its side or upside down, or the
chassis may fail.
