Chapter 6. Maintain the chassis
ACI-3144-XR Chassis User Manual
Maintenance of components
APCON chassis share a modular design to ensure high availability as well as ease of
maintenance.
That includes swapping out blades or other modules, as well as software
upgrades for the switch.
Hot-swappable modules
Most I
NTELLA
F
LEX
XR chassis offer an optional redundant power supply that prevents loss
of service, and many components are hot-swappable. That means that components can
be replaced while the chassis is powered on, and it is not necessary to turn power off to
the chassis while you remove and replace components. This allows you to easily install,
remove, and replace power supplies, the Fan Module, and blades.
It is not necessary to turn power off to the chassis while you remove and replace the
components.
For details about how to remove and replace individual components, see the section in
this chapter for the component you want to install or replace.
Replacement of controller battery
The Controller in the chassis is equipped with a battery. However, the battery on all APCON
controllers is not accessible and is therefore not a serviceable part. The battery cannot be
replaced in the field, and you should
not
attempt to replace the battery.
Instead, should the Controller fail at any time, you must replace the entire ACI-3002
Controller. Contact your sales representative or refer to
for information about how
to contact Professional Services for assistance.
NOTE
In this chapter, illustrations for the ACI-3072-XR chassis are used for purposes of
example. The instructions to install, remove, or replace components involve the
same steps for any other I
NTELLA
F
LEX
XR chassis.
NOTE
When you swap out a power supply or a controller, it is strongly recommended
that you first back up switch settings and user data before doing so.
CAUTION
When swapping out the Fan Module, the chassis shuts down if the temperature
becomes too hot. To avoid thermal shutdown, remove and replace the Fan Module
as quickly as possible.
CAUTION
There is a risk of explosion if any battery is replaced with an incorrect type. APCON
disposes of used batteries in compliance with local regulations and practices.
