use and maintenance
Leonardo 125 - 150 - 250 - 300
NOTE
This vehicle is provided with front
and rear disc brakes, with separate
hydraulic circuits.
The following information refers to a single
braking system, but is valid for both.
When the disc pads wear out, the brake
fluid level in the reservoir decreases to
automatically compensate for their wear.
The brake reservoirs are positioned under
the handlebar cover, near the brake lever
couplings.
Periodically check the brake fluid level in
the reservoirs, see beside (CHECKING)
and the wear of the pads, see p. 48
(CHECKING THE BRAKE PAD WEAR).
!
WARNING
Do not use the vehicle if the braking
system leaks fluid.
CHECKING
To check the brake fluid level, proceed as
follows:
NOTE
Position the vehicle on firm and
flat ground.
◆
Position the vehicle on the centre stand.
◆
!
"
Remove the rear-view mirrors,
see p. 53 (REMOVING THE REAR-
VIEW MIRRORS).
◆
#
Move the rubber heat protection
screen (1) downwards.
◆
Rotate the handlebar, so that the fluid
contained in the brake reservoir is
parallel to the
≈

∆
mark stamped on
the glass gauge (2).
◆
Make sure that the fluid contained in the
reservoir exceeds the "
MIN
" mark
stamped on the glass gauge (2).
MIN
= minimum level.
If the fluid does not reach at least the "
MIN
"
mark:
!
CAUTION
When the disc pads wear out, the level
of the fluid decreases progressively to
compensate for their wear.
◆
Check the brake pad wear, see p. 48
(CHECKING THE BRAKE PAD WEAR)
and the disc wear.
If the pads and/or the disc do not need
replacing:
◆
Contact an
aprilia
Official Dealer, who
will provide for topping up.
!
CAUTION
Check the braking efficiency.
In case of excessive stroke of the brake
lever or reduced efficiency of the
braking system, contact an
aprilia
