Trickling Filter TKF
Principle
Trickling filter are aerated very good and so bio-
logical processes will run faster and gases like
oxygen and carbon dioxide will be exchanged
better. The AquaCare Trickling filter TKF can-
not block because the course filter bed
Mounting the unit
Place the filter to a practical position. Especially
the large filter must be protected against falling
over (brackets are available at your shop).
If sun will shine at the filter protect it with a
black foil. Bacteria normally do not like bright
light.
You can decide between a rigid PVC tubing or
connecting with hoses. For hose-mounting un-
screw the upper union nuts of the inlet ball valve
(1) and the outlet union (2). Take away the in-
serts and replace them with the adapters (3).
Screw the union nut with the adapters back to
the union respectively the ball valve.
Water Inlet
: connect the water inlet (A) of the
filter with suitable pump or bypass. The needed
water flow is listed in the chapter “technical
data”.
Water outlet
: please connect the outlet (B) back
to the aquarium system (directly into the aquar-
ium or into the main filter tank). The outlet tub-
ing should not exceed 2 Meter high (pay atten-
tion to the right pump performance). If the outlet
is higher than 30 cm the “aeration modus” (caps
E and D are unscrewed) cannot be realized.
Close the drain (C) if available.
Filling the system with the filter bed (if not
delivered with filter material)
: open the filter
by unscrewing the plastic screws (11). Take off
the filter cap (10) and the upper filter strainer
(8). Fill in the delivered special trickling material
into the filter. Do not fill more than barely under
the upper end of the central tube (5).
Attention
! The filter material should not enter
the central tube (5). Put one of your fingers onto
the central tube while filling or use a cap.
After putting back the upper filter strainer (8)
closed the filter again. Do not forget the o-ring
and screw all plastic screws (11) tight.
The filter is now ready to start.
Putting into operation
Before putting into operation make sure that all
connectors are positioned in the right way. The
drain (C) should be closed.
Close the inlet ball valve (1) nearly totally and
start the inlet pump or open the bypass. The wa-
ter should run carefully into the filter.
Open the ball valve only in small steps. The
more you open the water inlet valve the higher
the biological activity.
“Aeration modus”:
If you open the screw caps D and E of the aera-
tion and de-aeration connector air will flow up-
wards (chimney effect). This modus should be
use only if the filter is inside of a filter sump or
small water leakage does not care.
Maintenance of the TKF filter
The filter is nearly maintenance-free. Only if the
water contains a lot of calcium and hydrogen
carbonate (alkalinity) lime will fall out on the
surface of the trickling filter material. After a
long time of operation it is possibly necessary to
change the filter material.
Warranty
You have 24 months warranty on all AquaCare
units excepts spare parts like pump bearings and
rotors. You have no warranty if parts are broken
by violent.
