Especially in the case of electrically isolated bus systems, a ground connection must be
made for correct functioning. See for this the following subchapter and the ST1 pin as-
signment in chapter 3.7.2.
The functions are referred to as a function block in the following.
3.7.5.2
Function block of incremental encoder in 1
The function block of incremental encoder in 1 provides the following functions:

Voltage supply for the incremental encoder with either 5
V
DC or 12
V
DC
o
The voltage is selected externally via a hardware circuit and is identical for
incremental encoder 1 and incremental encoder 2
o
When the DC 5
V supply is used, the current consumption at incremental
encoder input 1 can be a maximum of 100
mA. When the 12
V
DC supply is
used, the current consumption of the incremental encoder may be a max-
imum of 50
mA.
o
The voltage drop is not equalized on the supply line between VEC-
TOPOWER
®
and the incremental encoder. It is not possible to use a Sense
line to correct the supply voltage for long lines.

The following sensor types can be connected
o
Sine/cosine incremental encoder with 5
V
DC supply and A and B track
with 1
V
pk.pk
signal each, symmetrical to 2.5
V reference voltage, in the case
of a Hiperface encoder with a supply voltage of 12
V
DC as well.
o
Incremental encoder with signals of the type RS-422/RS-485.
o
The limit frequency for the A and B track is 600
kHz for cosine / sine en-
coders. In the case of incremental encoders with square-wave levels (RS-
422,
RS-485),
the
limit
frequency
is
100
kHz.
The differential terminating resistance per track is 120
Ω.
o

o
Zero pulse once per mechanical revolution, either 1
V
pk-pk
or RS-422/RS-
485 signal

EnDAT, SSI, or Hiperface via data and clock line with up to 100
