2.8.5. CAPACITOR BANK CONTROL

2.8.5.1. INTRODUCTION

The protection and switching of capacitor banks for power factor correction can be

made by means of smART P500 BC relays.

The algorithm checks whether the bank has just been disconnected from the network

in order to wait until the capacitors discharge completely. While the breaker is open,

the algorithm shall wait until the discherge time lapses. While this time has not

reached zero, all commands to connect the Capacitor Bank are ignored.

Afterwards, it shall be checked whether either trip or close buttons have been

pressed so as to connect or disconnect the Capacitor Bank, as they have priority over

the rest of the algorithm.
