10. SEQUENCE EDITING
This is no ordinary sequencer being brought to you in the MiniBrute 2S. Modular systems
have long been associated with Step Sequencers, and in recent years they have been tied
into computer-based recording systems courtesy of USB/MIDI interfaces. This is wonderful
development, and it has garnered an avid, multi-generational fan base.
But for a single, portable device to offer not one, but
four tracks of step sequencing, plus
real-time recording, precision editing of data and control voltages, and a patch bay to send
the signals in any conceivable direction is an amazing feat of engineering skill and foresight.
Not to mention that it's also a powerhouse of an analog synth in its own right!
Welcome to the inner workings of the MiniBrute 2S.
10.1. Track selection
The Sequencer section of the MiniBrute 2S has four tracks, two of which share the features
of a single sequencer, and another two which are fully independent and configurable.
You can select any one of the four tracks using the TRACK SELECT buttons. The tracks are:
•
Pitch
, which is paired with the second track (Gate), but has its own jack in the
patch bay
•
Gate
, which is paired with the first track (Pitch), but has its own jack in the patch
bay
•
Velo
/Mod 1, an independent track with a configurable function and its own jack
in the patch bay
•
Press
/Mod 2, an independent track with a configurable function and its own jack
in the patch bay
Here's what we mean by the first two tracks being "paired." Pitch and Gate are normally
used together to control an external device: Pitch sends the Control Voltage to help the other
device know what frequency to produce, and Gate tells the other device when to open and
close the output signal.
And these two tracks always run in the same direction and at the same speed, hence they
"share the features of a single sequencer."
The other two tracks, the "independent" and "configurable" ones, can each send twelve
different types of data, two at a time, into the patch bay and/or to an external device.
So these tracks are capable of much more than one might think!
