10.2. Track Type
The first two tracks are dedicated to the functions printed on their buttons: Pitch and Gate.
That's the heart of most music, and we'll give them proper attention in this chapter.
The other two tracks are selected the same way: press their buttons. But then they can be
configured in a lot of ways.
The configuration begins by choosing the track type. To do this, hold one of the
Velo
/Mod 1 or
Press
/Mod 2 buttons and turn the Tempo/Value knob in both directions to view the various
track types. You'll see the following options:
• Pitch
• Gate
• Velo (short for Velocity)(
available for Velo/Mod 1 track only)
• Press (short for Pressure)(
available for Press/Mod 2 track only)
• 1V, 2V, 5V, and 8V. These are referred to collectively as the
xV
type.
• Env (for Envelope)
• Sin(e), Tri(angle), Saw Up, Saw Down, Sqr (Square), and SnH (Sample & Hold).
These are referred to collectively as the
LFO
type.
We'll describe the features and
of each of these track types later
in this chapter. But here are some important details about them:
• When track 3 is set to Velo, its data will be combined with notes being played
by the Pitch track and it will share the features of the Pitch track: direction, time
division, scale, mute/unmute status, etc.
• When track 4 is set to Press(ure), its data will be combined with notes being
played by the Pitch track and it will share the features of the Pitch track:
direction, time division, scale, mute/unmute status, etc.
• While you are working on a pattern, the RAM will retain the step data for each
type within tracks 3 and 4 but
only for the currently selected pattern.
As soon as
you load another pattern (even from the same bank) the step data will be lost.
• When you save a pattern to the Flash memory only the last type that was
selected for tracks 3 and 4 will be remembered, along with any primary/
secondary data that was entered on the steps within those tracks.
10.2.1. Pitch + Gate + Velo + Press = Pitch Track
The type of the Pitch and Gate tracks cannot be changed, but the Velo/Mod 1 and Press/Mod
2 track types can be changed. This is when they can be set to independent directions and
lengths, etc.
But when those tracks are set to their defaults (Velo and Pressure, respectively), then all
four tracks are effectively working as one voice. Each track will capture its default data type
during real-time recording.
