Serial Settings
There are two different types of serial port configuration menus in the S571. The console port settings and the
sixteen serial data port (indicated by “
n
-I/O
n
”) settings.

B) 1-I/O 1 Settings
. . .
M) 16-I/O 16 Settings
This selection pulls up the setting for the Console Serial Port. This is the command port that a serial command
interface (such as a computer or lap top) would be connected to.
These sixteen options are for configuring the serial data ports.
Console Settings
The Console Port is the serial port used exclusively for communicating via an RS-232 interface with the command
processor of the S571. Use any terminal emulator (HyperTerminal, ProComm, TeraTerm, etc.) set to whatever
baud rate and data format is set in the Console Settings menu.
SiteBoss 571 - Console
A) Baud Rate [19200]
B) Data Format [8N1]
C) Handshaking [NONE]
D) Duplex [FULL]
E) Inactivity Timeout [0]
Baud Rate
The Baud Rate option displays a selection menu for baud rates available for the port. These values range from
300 baud to 115200 baud. The default setting is 19200.
Data Format
The Data Format toggles settings for word length, parity, and stop bit settings. The available options are: 8N1,
7E1, 7O1, 7N1, and 8O2. Default setting is 8N1.
Handshaking
Handshaking toggles settings for how the port will handshake with the connected device. The available options
are: NONE, XON/XOFF, BOTH, and DTR. The default setting is NONE.
Duplex
Duplex controls the echo settings for the command processor. Full duplex causes the S571 to echo all characters
sent to the remote device. Half duplex turns off character echo. The default setting is FULL.
Inactivity Timeout
This option sets the number of minutes (0
– 255) to wait before disconnecting an idle connection. A setting of 0
means the connection will never automatically expire. Default setting is 0.
