RANSPORTING
THE
6710D
This chapter describes how to prepare and load the 6710D for travel on a low boy trailer.
For moving the machine on a work site, see “Moving
Machinery” on page 49.
Preparing for
Transport
Preparing for transport requires setting up the machine
for travel with consideration of weather and road condi-
tions.
If the 6710D is not prepared for travel, contact an expe-
rienced operator at the office of your Peterson distribu-
tor. Transportation instructions, including loading and
unloading steps can be faxed or e-mailed for your safety
and convenience.
Important
When preparing the machine for transport, follow
all safety precautions as described in the chapter
“Working Safely” on page 31.
Use a low-boy trailer with at least 9 axles. If the trailer
has outriggers, use them to increase the trailer width,
with support lumber beneath the tracks.
Important
Always load and unload the machine on a firm,
level surface.
1
CAUTION
Avoid loading the 6710D in freezing weather. Use
extreme caution if this is unavoidable. The steel-
to-steel interface between icy drive tracks and
the low-boy ramps is extremely slick.
To prepare the machine for travel:
1.
Clean off any debris or loose items from the
machine. Make sure there are no stray objects on
the machine that can fall off during travel.
1
WARNING
Personal injury hazard.
The debris curtain is heavy. Do not stand under
the curtain when rolling or unrolling the debris
curtain. At least two people are required to han-
dle the debris curtain.
2.
Roll up the debris curtain. Secure the curtain to pre-
vent it from loosening during travel.
3.
Secure the grates so they cannot come loose during
travel. Use a chain to secure them in the hangers on
the side of the hopper.
4.
Make sure the restraining bar is in place on the dis-
charge conveyor to prevent the belt from falling out
under the machine.
5.
Secure the water hose. Use a bungee cord or other
method to make sure the water hose cannot come
loose during travel.
1
CAUTION
Always secure the water hose before travel. A
loose hose can injure someone or damage prop-
erty during travel.
6.
Unlock the electrical disconnect switches
(Figure 131) and turn each switch to the
ON
posi-
tion.
