Machine Safety
This section describes the hazards of operating the
machine and identifies the safety devices for reducing
risk of injury.
Safety Controls
Safe use of the machine during normal operation, main-
tenance, and emergencies requires full control of the
engine and energized systems. This section describes
how to use the electrical disconnect switches, the con-
trol panel engine control, the emergency stop buttons,
and
the
OFF
&
STOP
button on the remote transmitter.
Disconnect Switches
The disconnect switches are located next to the power
distribution box (Figure 22). These two switches con-
nect and disconnect battery electrical power:
•
The control power disconnect switch disconnects
electrical power to all systems except the work
lights and the water sprayer system.
Turn off the control power switch to lock out the
machine when you want to use the work lights or
battery-powered water sprayer.
•
The battery disconnect switch is a key-operated
switch that disconnects
all
electrical power on the
machine.
Use the battery disconnect switch to turn off the
electrical control system:
•
when the machine is left unattended
•
when the machine is being transported
•
to prevent unexpected starting
•
to lock out the machine completely (see “Dis-
connect Lockout/Tagout” on page 34)
Important
As a standard safety practice for using the discon-
nect switches, always turn off the battery discon-
nect switch to disconnect all electrical power.
Turn off the control power disconnect switch only
when you need to disconnect power and continue
to have the work lights on or use the water sprayer.
1
CAUTION
Do not use the disconnect switches to attempt
shutdown. Doing so can cause serious damage
to machine electronics.
Figure 22:
Disconnect Switches in the
On
Position
Turning off the disconnect switches while the engine is
running can create electrical loads, spikes, and surges
that cause expensive electrical damage to the alternator,
micro-processor, Electronic Control Module (ECM), or
other sensitive parts.
Use the
ENGINE
switch for normal shut down. Only
when the engine has fully stopped should you then turn
off a disconnect switch.
