Starting the Feed System
The feed system starts only when:
•
the clutch is engaged,
•
the engine speed is between 1750 rpm and maxi-
mum idle, and
•
the discharge conveyor is already running.
N
OTE
:
If the conveyor is turned off while the feed is running,
the feed will stop.
To start the feed system:
1.
Raise the engine speed to high idle.
2.
Press the
FEED
forward button.
1
WARNING
Personal Injury Hazard.
The feed system can start moving unexpectedly
any time the engine is running in the operating
range of about 1750 to 2080 rpm.
3.
Watch and listen to see that the feed chain and mate-
rial compression roll are operating correctly. When
operating correctly, the compression roll rotates
counterclockwise, as viewed from the control
panel.
1
WARNING
Thrown material, crushing, and pinching hazard.
• Do not stand at the feed end of the hopper.
• Do not touch the feed chain or approach it too
closely while it is moving.
4.
While the engine is warming up, do the steps under
“Inspecting Before Grinding” on page 75.
Feed System Options
Five modes of compression roll and feed system opera-
tion are available on the display. See “Feed System
Options” on page 127.
These modes can be selected singularly or in combina-
tion to meet specific demands for processing particular
feed material.
1
WARNING
Thrown materials hazard.
Operating the grinder with the compression roll
at a higher than usual elevation increases the
risk that material might fly out and injure per-
sons in the area.
• Watch that people are not in the thrown-mate-
rial zone.
• Minimize the use of a larger feed opening. Once
larger material has been processed by the
grinder, return the compression roll to a normal
mode of operation.
Failure to follow these instructions may result in
serious injury.
Mode 1: Larger Feed Opening
Feed Mode 1 permits the compression roll to rise higher
than normal to allow the reduction of large material,
such as stumps. The compression roll can rise to a max-
imum of 44 in. (112 cm) before down pressure is auto-
matically applied.
1
WARNING
This mode should be used only when the grinder
is located and positioned in such a way that
thrown material does not pose a hazard to per-
sonnel or property in the area.
When selected on the display, an on-screen lamp turns
on, and a warning message advises you to keep the haz-
ard zone clear.
