Important
Large non-grindable objects in the feed material
can cause down time and severe damage. For more
information, see “LIMITED WARRANTY POLICY”
on page 7 and “Responsibility for Safety” on
page 32.
Mode 2: Compression Roll Floats at
Adjustable Height
Feed Mode 2 allows the compression roll to maintain a
“floor height” with 15 in. (38 cm) of allowable move-
ment above the current set point.
While in this mode, the operator can temporarily raise
or lower the roll by using the compression roll up and
down switches.
This mode is recommended for regrind operations, par-
ticularly for coloring mulch. The feed chain speed and
compression roll height can be set to deliver a uniform
volume of material to the rotor, resulting in a consis-
tently sized regrind product. To adjust these feed system
parameters, see
“Feed System Options” on page 127
and “Compression Roll” on page 145.
When coloring mulch, the colorant feed rate pump can
be matched to the grinding production to create a uni-
formly colored mulch.
Mode 3: Adaptive Feed Responds to Engine
Load
Feed Mode 3 is a way to control the feed rate based on
the percentage of engine load instead of engine speed:
the greater the load, the slower the feed rate.
The goal is to reduce the time spent with the engine load
at 100% and thereby extend the interval before an
engine overhaul.
The following percentages are based on default settings
for adjustable set points:
•
The feed rate is constant when the engine load is
below 80%.
•
When engine load is within the 80–93% range, the
feed rate (full forward) is proportional to the change
in engine load.
•
Material feeding stops when the engine load is
above 93%.
This mode is recommended for regrind with small
grates.
Mode 4: Feed Auto Clear Mode
This mode can be used to program the feed system to
reverse automatically at regular intervals, according to
adjustable parameters. See “Feed Clear Auto Reverse”
on page 144.
Mode 5: Regrind Mode
In regrind mode, the compression roll floats and
reverses. This mode allows the compression roll to
meter large loads of feed material as it enters the feed
throat. Commonly used for regrind, such as processing
green waste for mulch.
