WARNING
Electrical hazard.
When the battery disconnect is in the OFF posi-
tion, the electrical system is de-
energized
but
NOT locked
out.
Do not perform maintenance
until the
switch
cover is closed and padlocked.
Disconnect Lockout/Tagout
The disconnect switches (Figure 22) are a safety lock-
out point for the 6710D. Lockout of the switches pre-
vent accidental start-up and other hazards.
Figure 23:
Disconnect Switches Lockout/Tagout
The battery disconnect switch must be in the off posi-
tion to remove the key. When the key is removed, a
hinged lockout cover can be placed over the switch
opening.
The control power disconnect switch does not have a
key or cover. Instead, the switch must be in the off
posi-
tion in order to lock it.
Keep the battery disconnect switch key and padlock
keys in a secure location when the machine is shut
down.

WARNING
After correctly shutting down and locking out
the
6710D
, hazards from stored energy can still
exist. See “Stored Energy” on page 37.
Everyone maintaining or servicing the machine must
lock and tag it out. Lockout/tagout procedures must be
followed as written by federal (OSHA in the U.S.), state
(such as OR-OSHA in Oregon, U.S.), provincial, or
local authorities.
To lock out and tag out the machine:
1.
Turn off the engine at the control panel.
2.
Turn off the battery disconnect switch, remove the
key (Figure 22), close the cover, lock, and tag out.
OR
If you need to use the work lights or water sprayer,
keep the battery disconnect closed (on) and turn off
the control power disconnect switch. Lock the con-
trol power switch and tag out (Figure 23).
3.
Observe the following precautions:
When more than one person is working on or
around the machine, use multiple lockout devices
so that each person has their own padlock and key.
Important
Do not disregard lockout procedures. Doing so can
be very dangerous.
