6.7 On-Board Monitor Test
The On-Board Monitor Test is useful after service or after a
vehicle’s control module memory is erased. The On-Board
Monitor Test for non-CAN-equipped vehicles retrieves and
displays test results for emission-related powertrain components
and systems that are not continuously monitored. The On-Board
Monitor Test for CAN-equipped vehicles retrieves and displays
test results for emission-related powertrain components and
systems that are and are not continuously monitored. Tests and
components IDs are determined by the vehicle manufacturer.
In this test, there are typically a minimum value, a maximum value,
and a current value for each monitor. By comparing the current value
with the minimum and maximum values, the scan tool will determine
if it is OK.
