Settings: Adding inbound access from the Internet - Port Forwarding
There may be situations where access from the Internet to a device in the local area network has
to be provided. However any access port that is opened will be a potential risk as a hacker will
always look for open access ports with a port scanner.
If access from the Internet to a network device must be added then this is done using the port
forward rule. The addition of a port forward rule is described in the figure below. Many port
forward rules can be added.
Please avoid adding port forward rules to ensure the best protection of the network from
hackers.
Select one of two protocols
that are commonly used for
Internet communications:
TCP
ensures the delivery
of data by checking each
packet that is received
UDP
has no error checking
and is faster than TCP, so
it is used for streaming
data such as video
Enter a port
number that will
be added to the
WAN IP, e.g.
1.2.3.4:800
Enter an IP address
and port number
withing the LAN
subnet that will be
addressed via the
WAN port number,
e.g.
192.168.1.50:4000
Click the ‘save’
button when
finished
