Step 2: Front of Cab Area
Condition of Windshield
• Check for damage and clean if dirty.
• Check windshield wiper arms for proper
spring tension.
• Check wiper blades for any damage, “dead”
rubber and attachment to arm.
Lights and Reflectors
• Inspect parking lights, and if equipped, the
clearance and identification lights. They
should be clean, operating and of the
proper color.
• Turn on the headlights. High and low beams
should be operating and have clean lenses.
If equipped, check daytime running lights.
• Left and right front turn signal lights should
be clean, operating and of the proper color.
•
Check the four-way flashers for proper
operation and color.
•
Reflectors should be clean and of the
proper color.
Grille
• Check that charge air cooler, radiator or bug
screens are clean and undamaged.
Step 3: Right Side of Cab Area
Right Front Area
• Check condition of wheel. Especially look
for cracks, bent or broken studs or missing
or loose lug nuts.
•
Check condition of tire: properly inflated,
no serious cuts, bulges, tread wear or
any signs of misalignment; valve stem not
touching wheel or brake drum; valve cap in
place.
• Check wheel bearing and hub; no obvious
leaking on the outside or inside of wheel.
Verify correct oil level in hub.
Right Front Suspension
• Check condition of spring, spring hangers,
shackles, U-bolts; no cracks, breaks or
shifting.
• Check shock absorber condition.
Right Front Brake
• Check slack adjuster and chamber pushrod
travel. With brakes applied or released, look
for conspicuously different positions of the
slack adjusters.
•
Check brake air hose for any chafing.
• Check brake chamber mounting bolts and
bracket.
• Look for slack travel between lining and
drum. (This check cannot be made if dust
covers are in place.)
• Reapply the park brake.
Condition of Front Axle and Steering
System, Right Side
• No loose, worn, bent, damaged or missing
parts.
Under Cab, Right Side (Cab Raised)
• Check coolant and heater hose condition.
•
Check the windshield washer fluid reservoir
to ensure an adequate level of washer
solution.
• Check condition of fan drive belts.
• Check engine and surrounding areas for
coolant, oil and fuel leaks.
• Check wiring harnesses for signs of
damage.
Fluid Levels
• Check the engine oil level using the
dipstick.
• Check the transmission oil level using the
dipstick.
Note: Inspect the coolant reserve reservoir
to verify it is half full. The coolant level
should be in the middle of the sight glass.
