DANGER
If a failure occurs in either air system
immediately bring the vehicle to a safe
stop off the travelled roadway. DO NOT
operate a vehicle with a defective air or
braking system.
In the event of a failure of either the “A” circuit
or “B” circuit, if the vehicle is at a stop with
the park brake applied, air pressure from the
functioning circuit applies the rear brakes using
the park brake.
In the event of a failure of both the “A” circuit
and “B” circuit, if the vehicle is at a stop with
the park brake applied, the park brake will
remain engaged.
In the event of a failure of either the “A” circuit
or “B” circuit while the vehicle is in motion, the
operator will still control the brakes using the
brake pedal. The Brake Pressure Warning
Lamp will illuminate and sound an alarm. The
operator must immediately bring the vehicle to
a safe stop.
In the event of a failure of both the “A” circuit
and “B” circuit (causing both to drop to 35 psi
(240 kPa) or below) while the vehicle is in
motion, the park brake valve will pop out and
the park brake will automatically apply and
bring the vehicle to an emergency stop.
Service brake Application
When applying the service brakes, press
the brake pedal as firmly as speed and road
conditions permit. It is not good practice to
apply the service brakes lightly and then
increase pressure. Instead, apply firmly and
ease off the brake pedal as the speed is
reduced. Do not fan the brake pedal. Fanning
gives poor brake performance and wastes air.
The brake pedal should only be fully depressed
in an emergency situation. When descending
a long grade, do not use the service brakes
too long or too often. The brakes may overheat
and lose their effectiveness.
DANGER
Failure to observe these precautions
can result in loss of vehicle control and
serious personal injury or death can
occur.
