WARNING
If any of the AbS lamps come on during
driving or do not go out after a short time
after turning on the ignition, take the
vehicle to an authorized Autocar service
facility to repair the AbS or brake system.
Automatic Traction Control (ATC)
(Optional)
The Automatic Traction Control (ATC) option
uses the same wheel sensors as the ABS to
determine if one set of drive wheels is spinning
much more rapidly than the wheel set on the
other side. If the ATC determines that a wheel
is spinning (with vehicle speed below 25 mph
[40 km/h]), it momentarily lights the lamp and
operates the brake system to apply some
brake force to stop the spinning wheel(s). This
puts the drive power over to the stationary
wheel(s).
The ATC Lamp (Figure 123) illuminates:
1. During power up (e.g. when the vehicle is
started) and turns off after the self test is
completed, provided no diagnostic trouble
codes are present.
2. When ATC is disabled for any reason.
3. During an ATC event (the lamp will flash
rapidly). When ATC is no longer active,
the ATC active/indicator lamp turns off.
Figure 123
If vehicle speed is above 25 mph (40 km/h), a
signal is sent to the ECM, which reduces the
engine speed to be consistent with vehicle
speed. This action helps reduce the amount
of wheel spin and gives the operator greater
vehicle control.
The ATC system does not have an actual ON/
OFF switch however the ATC Switch
(Figure 124) can be used to put the system
in the mud/snow mode. The mud/snow mode
increases available traction on soft surfaces
like snow, slush or mud by allowing moderate
wheel spin to occur.

Warning Lamp
The Trailer ABS Lamp (Figure 125) indicates
a fault has been detected in the trailer ABS
system, when equipped, or communications
from the trailer ABS control module have been
lost.
