Unpacking equipment
There may new TIMs or PIMs that the customer has ordered.
1. Unpack any TIMs or PIMs shipped to the customer.Equipment includes:
●
Any additional Telephony Interface Modules (TIMs) and Physical Interface Modules
(PIMs)
●
Cables for the TIMs and PIMs.
2. Verify that you have two different sets of console cables and adapters:
- An RJ-45 flat rollover cable and a DB-9 adapter for console connections to the TGM550.
- An ordinary round RJ-45 Ethernet cable and a DB-9 adapter for console connections to
the Juniper router.

The two DB-9 adapters look the same, but they are
not

Do not
use the router
adapter
nor
the Ethernet cable to connect to the TGM550. Additionally,
do not
use the TGM550 adapter
nor
its rollover cable to connect to the router. If you use
the wrong cable or adapter, you may damage the console port. As a result, it is
strongly recommended that you use a permanent marker to label the cables and
adapters as soon as you remove them from the packaging.
3. If necessary, label the DB-9 adapter and the flat rollover cable for the TGM550 to say
“TGM550”. Label the DB-9 adapter and Ethernet cable for the router console to say “router.”
Turning off the J-series router
1. Press and release the power button to turn off the router (
The router begins gracefully shutting down the operating system and then powers itself off.
