Cruise / Enroute 5-13
Each user waypoint can be assigned a 5 character identifier that
can be used in the FMS anywhere a nav database waypoint can
be used. A longer description can also be attached to each user
waypoint.
ENTERING AND INTERCEPTING A RADIAL
From the “Nav Display” or “Bug Select” tabs of the PFD page, the
FMS Course function will allow the pilot to navigate To or From
the active waypoint while the FMS is selected as the Primary Nav
source. When the FMS is selected as the Primary Nav source the
left IFD knob legend will be titled as 'Course'. Rotating the inner
or outer ring will provide a new intercept course to the active
waypoint. The Desired Track (DTK) readout within the Primary
Nav datablock will be replaced with CRS XXX, for entry of desired
intercept course. Rotating the inner or outer ring while the course
legend is displayed will activate the FMS course function.
Pushing the center knob while in the course function will turn off
the course function and return to desired track navigation.
Rotating the inner ring provides fine control, adjusting the course
bearing by single degrees (1 deg/detent) and rotating the outer
ring will incrementally change the course bearing by a factor of
ten degrees (10 deg/detent).
Course mode makes the current waypoint act like a VOR. Select
the desired radial to fly inbound or outbound. Adjusting the course
to or from the active waypoint will be reflected by the To/From
flag as in a traditional HSI. The course deviation indicator will be
presented in relation to the selected course.
The FMS Course function will always be armed (i.e. it will always
intercept the flight plan) in a To intercept. If the airplane is in a
From course, it will intercept only if the dialed course trajectory
intercepts the flight plan. If the dialed course does not intercept
the flight plan the airplane will fly that course indefinitely.
The FMS Course function will be exited when the airplane
intercepts the active waypoint in a To intercept or when
intercepting a downpath leg in the From case. Pressing the center
knob while the course function is active will also cancel change to
CRS. The FMS Course will remain active if a From course is
dialed and the airplane does not intercept the FPL.
