AXIS StorPoint CD E100 User’s Manual
User-level
Access Control
User-level access control allows you to define rights for discs/volumes based on
as whom the user logged into the domain. The StorPoint CD will act as a
“member server” in the NT-domain and verify the user’s identity and group
memberships against a domain controller on the network. The advantages with
this method are:
•
The user is not required to answer to password prompts every time he/she
needs to access a protected disc or a volume.
•
The network administrator can administer the access rights for discs and
volumes using Windows NT’s standard administration tools.
•
The network administrator can use the native user groups in the domain to
set basic security.
Share-level
Access Control
Share-level access control is based on different passwords for different shared
discs/folders. No verification with domain controllers will take place. This is a
good method to use in smaller “workgroup based” networks when there is no
domain controller.
Recommendation!
User-level access control is the preferred method to use in Windows NT server
based networks.
