Managing
Access Rights in
NT Environments
Access rights are managed from the Windows NT Explorer. It is
not
possible to manage access rights from the Windows 95/98 Explorer.
Follow these steps:
1. In the Windows NT Explorer, select the resource for which you
want to define the user-level.
2. Select
Properties
from the
File
menu.
3. Select the
Security
tab, and click the
Permissions
button.
4. Set or change permissions for groups and users. Access rights work as
in any other Windows NT 4 Server. For more help on how to define
access rights in a Windows NT environment, see the Windows NT
online help.
Notes:
❏
The built-in help in Windows NT 4 is a good place to start learning
more about Windows NT security. See access permissions: files,
directories.
❏
The access rights are additive which means that the user’s access
rights are the summary of the rights granted from individual
assignments and group memberships.
❏
Files and subfolders created within the selected folder will
automatically inherit the same access rights.
5. Click
OK
.
