Returning to Standard Serging

Use the 3-thread rolled hem setting when sewing sheer fabrics that otherwise would require French 

s eam s .  

Set the stitch length at 2.5. Then simply sew the seams, aligning the fabric edges with the serger seam 

g uid e,  t rim m ing  aw ay t h e ex c es s  s eam  allow anc e.

A frilly or “lettuce” edge can be created on most light and medium 

w eig h t  s t ret c h  f ab ric s  and  on b ias  ed g es  of  s of t ,  w ov en f ab ric s .

Set the machine for the 3-thread rolled edge. (page 29)

Set differential feed at 0.6. (fig. B) 

Serge the fabric in the direction of greatest stretch - the cross-

g rain on k nit s ,  b ias  g rain on w ov ens .  

For a “leafier” effect, try using a shorter stitch length and gently 

s t ret c h  t h e f ab ric  as  it  is  b eing  s ew n.
