BACK PANEL (continued)
Send and Return Jacks – 30R
Connect the output of the send jack to the input of your effects device. Connect the output of
your effect and to the Return jack of the loop. The Send can also serve as a Line Out to drive
external processors in a wet/dry/wet rig.
Send Level Control – 30R
This knob controls the preamp output level that’s fed to your effects device(s). The purpose of
this control is to get the best signal-to-noise ratio from your pedals and rack processors. Keep the
level low on pedals and other instrument level devices. Turning it up too high with these types of
devices will cause unwanted distortion. Turn up the level when using rack mount line-level
devices like a digital effects processor. Most line-level units will have a meter on the front panel
that shows the input level and a level control. By using the Send Level control on the Hot Cat
and the input level control on your rack mount processor, you should be able to set the optimum
input level for the device. This will produce the least amount of noise and unwanted distortion
while giving your processor plenty of signal level to work with.
Return Level Control – 30R
This is another volume level control that becomes active when you have your effects loop
engaged. The loop must be “closed” (i.e., the send and return jacks are both used) for the Return
level control to function. If, for instance, you use only the Send jack on the back as a line out, the
Return level will not function, but you can still use the Volume of the clean channel and the
Master for the 2
nd
channel’s overall volume level of the amp.
Auxiliary Return Jack - 30R
A separate post-preamp amp stage that runs parallel to the effects Return jack. This allows you to
use the second output of the stereo delay or multi-effects processor to get more interesting effects
in a mono format. You could also input CD player signals, drum machines, etc. to play along in a
practice situation. The signals input into this jack will go straight to the power amp section and
will not be affected by the other controls on the amp. It is yet another feature that extends the
functionality of your amp.
Reverb Footswitch Jack - 30R
This is the footswitch jack to turn the reverb on or off. You can use any conventional shielded
cable latching on/off footswitch with this jack.
Speaker Out
This jack is adding an extension speaker cabinet to be used with the internal speaker. The
internal speaker runs at 8 ohms for a single 12 or 4 ohms for a 2x12 and is parallel with the
extension speaker jack.
