Chapter 7 • Maintenance / Service
This chapter describes service/maintenance work that can be carried out by a qualified end user.
1 Changing the battery
The lithium battery buffers the internal real-time clock (RTC) and CMOS data.
Information:
•
The product design allows the battery to be changed with the B&R device switched either on or
off. In some countries, safety regulations do not allow batteries to be changed while the module
is switched on.
•
Any BIOS settings that have been made will remain when the battery is changed with the power
turned off (stored in non-volatile EEPROM). The date and time must be reset later because this
data is lost when the battery is changed.
•
The battery should only be changed by qualified personnel.
Warning!
The battery must be replaced by a Type CR2477N Renata battery only. The use of another battery may
present a risk of fire or explosion.
The battery may explode if handled improperly. Do not recharge, disassemble or dispose of in fire.
The following replacement lithium batteries are available: 4A0006.00-000 (1 pc.) and 0AC201.91 (4 pcs.).
1.1 Battery status evaluation
The status of the battery is determined immediately after the device is started and subsequently checked by the
system every 24 hours. During this measurement, the battery is subjected to a brief load (approximately 1 second)
and then evaluated. Once determined, the battery status is displayed in BIOS (under Advanced -> OEM features
-> System board features -> Voltage values) and in the B&R Control Center (ADI driver); it can also be read in a
customer application using the ADI library.
Battery status
Description
N/A
The hardware or firmware being used is too old and does not support reading the battery status.
GOOD
Data buffering is intact.
BAD
From the point when battery capacity is recognized as insufficient (BAD), data buffering is intact for approximately another 500
hours
Table 296: Battery status
From the point when battery capacity is recognized as insufficient, data buffering is intact for approximately another
500 hours When replacing the battery, data is buffered for approximately 10 minutes by a gold leaf capacitor.
1.2 Procedure
•
Disconnect the power supply to the B&R Industrial PC.
•
Touch the housing or ground connection in order to discharge any electrostatic charge from your body.
•
Remove the cover from the battery compartment and carefully pull out the battery using the removal strip.
