MACHINE START UP
A Cummins Operation & Service Manual has extensive information on the
diesel engine in your BARKO machine.
Section 1 of that manual has operating
instructions not covered in this manual. Read that section carefully. This Cummins
manual was supplied with your BARKO machine, contact your BARKO dealer if it’s
missing.
1 STARTING THE MACHINE
Before proceeding with start-up, perform the machine
Pre-Start Checklist
described earlier in this chapter.
If equipped, ensure emergency stop
button is in RUN position.
Insert Ignition Key and turn to ON position.
Engine indicator lamps on cab display will
momentarily come on and then go out.
During cooler weather starting, the grid
heater/glow plug icon may also come on in
the display. Wait until this indicator light goes
out before proceeding to step 3.
Turn Key to START.
Do not engage starter
longer than 30 seconds. Wait 2 minutes
between each attempt to start engine.
DO NOT USE STARTING FLUID IF ENGINE
DOES NOT START!
After engine starts, let key return to ON
position.
Keep throttle at "idle" for 3-5
minutes to let system warm up.
The engine must have adequate oil
pressure within 15 seconds after
starting.
If the WARNING lamp indicating
low oil pressure has not gone out or there
is no oil pressure indicated on a gauge
shut the engine
OFF
immediately!
Slowly raise engine RPM to 1/2 throttle.
Run engine for 5 minutes at 1/2 throttle before
operating any controls. Do not accelerate
rapidly during warm-up.
Check Engine Temperature and Engine Oil
Pressure Gauges.
Make sure engine is
warming up properly and that there is oil
pressure.
1.1 Normal Starting Procedure
If gauges check out at proper readings,
you are ready to operate machine
controls...
If equipped, TURN ON Servo Lever
Raise engine RPM to full operating
throttle.
Check gauges again for proper readings.
Push Control Power Switch to ON
position.
This will activate all controls. Any
controls that are in a functioning position will
cause that function to operate immediately.
If equipped, TURN ON Attachment Arming
Switch.
If equipped with Stabilizer Legs, lower
them to firm, level ground until weight is
off the truck/trailer tires.
Tires should not be
suspended in mid-air, but should be lightly
touching ground.
Operate all systems to extreme limits of
function.
This will circulate hydraulic oil
through entire system and spread lubrication
throughout machine if recently greased.
You are now ready to operate your BARKO
