MACHINE START UP
(continued...)
If equipped with a Pre-Heat System, warm
Engine and Hydraulic Oil before starting
the machine.
See
Chapter 80 Options
for
operational guidelines for using a pre-heat
system.
Start engine per the “Normal Starting
Procedure” outlined earlier.
Let engine
warm up at idle longer in colder weather.
With engine running at 1/2 throttle, operate
machine functions slowly to gradually
build heat within the hydraulic system.
Operate one function at a time and through
each functions full range of motion. If
machine is equipped with an attachment,
hydraulic oil supplied to the attachment
should also be circulated gradually to warm
attachment components.
Once hydraulic system has started to
warm, engine can be run at full throttle.
However, machine and attachment functions
1.2 Cold Weather Starting Procedure
In cold weather, special precautions must be
taken to ensure that hydraulic oil supply is
warmed up enough for proper circulation
before the machine is operated.
If oil is not
properly warmed, pumps and other machine
components can be damaged.
When hydraulic oil is too cold, machine functions
will be sluggish or not work at all and pump noise
may be heard. Do not operate the machine in this
condition.
Consider running synthetic oils and other
synthetic lubricants for cold weather
conditions.
See
LUBRICATION & FLUID
SPECIFICATIONS
and component sections in this
manual for recommendations.
Use the following guidelines:
Do not use starting fluids with this engine.
This
engine is equipped with an intake air heater. The
use of starting fluid can cause an explosion, fire,
personal injury, severe damage to the engine, and
property damage.

1.3 Jump Starting (24V System)
This machine is equipped with dual batteries.
Batteries can emit explosive gases.
To reduce
the possibility of personal injury, always ventilate
the compartment before servicing the batteries. To
reduce the possibility of arcing, remove the
negative (-) battery cable first and attach the
negative (-) battery cable last.
Wear eye protection when charging the battery
or starting engine with an auxiliary battery.
Make sure Master Electrical Disconnect
(MED) Switch is ON
.
Connect cables to “jumper” battery.
Ÿ
Connect positive cable lead to
POSITIVE
OUTPUT TERMINAL on battery.
Ÿ
Connect negative cable lead to
NEGATIVE
TERMINAL on the battery.
Connect cables to vehicle battery.
Ÿ
Connect positive cable lead to
POSITIVE
OUTPUT TERMINAL on battery.
Ÿ
Connect negative cable lead to
NEGATIVE
TERMINAL on the battery that is
connected to CHASSIS GROUND.
Start Engine
Ÿ
Turn off all electrical (lights, etc) and run at
idle.
Disconnect cables in reverse order of how
they were connected...
