MACHINE STORAGE
BARKO recommends the following storage steps for all machines not being used for more than 2
MONTHS under normal conditions, either at the dealer's location or the customer's site.
Machines shipped during the winter months are subject to road salt.
New
machines arriving at your facilities, no matter what locale, must be washed. Use a
hose, rather than pressure washer to remove road salt residue that will cause
premature corrosion of the machine and its parts.
Upon machine arrival it should be washed completely with mild soap and water to remove all
road salt and debris from transport.
Avoid cleaning chemicals that are acidic or highly alkaline or
contain potassium hydroxide and/or specify not to use on exterior car surfaces. Potassium
hydroxide is an active ingredient in paint strippers.
Grease all grease points to push out any water or debris trapped in those areas.
Spray cylinder rods with a preservative such as fogging oil to prevent rusting.
Fully cycle the
cylinders to keep a thin film of oil on the cylinder shafts and seals.
Keep all cylinders in RETRACTED POSITION.
TURN OFF the Main Electrical Disconnect (MED) Switch.
With the MED switch in the off position, some models of machines
may still use electrical power for pre-heaters and fire suppression.
Maintain the fuel tank level at a minimum of 1/4 full tank capacity.
Lock all doors and windows.
Perform regular inspection and maintenance as defined in the Service Schedule.
Every 30 days start the machine and allow the engine to warm up to operating temp.
Exercise
all machine functions for 10-15 minutes to exercise all hydraulic components: pumps, motors,
cylinders, valves, seals, a/c-heater and electrical components.

See the Cummins Operation and Maintenance Manual supplied with your
BARKO machine for engine storage specifics.
Also, refer to your BARKO
Service Manual chapters for specific storage requirements for machine
components.
Machines stored in extreme conditions (cold, wet, humid, and/or salty
coastal environments) may require these steps even if stored for shorter
periods of time.
Monthly or weekly storage preventions may be necessary.
