INSPECTING THE TURNTABLE BEARING
The turntable bearing area is a potential pinch point. Before doing any maintenance
or inspection on turntable bearing, lower boom and attachment to the ground,
shut machine down to a zero energy state and put ignition key in your pocket.
Do not operate machine with a bearing that is worn out, damaged or has
reached maximum permissable clearance measurements. Death, severe injury
or property damage will result.
Visually inspect the turntable bearing daily for signs of:
- wear or damage.
- loose or missing mounting bolts.
- debris or fluids on bearing surfaces.
Clean off bearing. Do not allow debris or fluids to build up on or near bearing (they not only shorten the life of the
bearing but may also hide potential problem areas).
Replace any bearing mounting bolts that are damaged or missing.
BEARING MOUNTING BOLT TORQUE
Check bearing mounting bolts for proper torque every 100 hours of operation. Torque to proper amount given in
Special Torque Specifications section of machine’s Operator’s Manual.
Loose or overtorqued bolts can cause death, severe injury or property damage.
Maintain proper bolt torque. Visually check bolts daily. Check torque every 100 hours.
BEARING LUBRICATION
Use a multi-purpose grease with a lithium base, EP additives and rust inhibitors.
- Above 32 degrees F =Use #2 grease
- Below 32 degrees F = Use #1 grease
High pressure grease guns are not recommended for the Turntable Bearing, as they may damage the seal. Use of a
hand grease gun is suggested.
Lubricate the turntable bearing daily
at the fittings located on the ring or on the head base plate.
NOTE: In some instances the bearing can be greased from fittings that are located either inside the cab on the floor or
on the loader platform outside the cab.
Rotate the machine slightly between each shot of grease for complete distribution of the grease throughout the
bearing. Rotate the machine at least two complete revolutions for each fitting. Three shots of grease per fitting
should be sufficient, on a daily basis.
Do not allow anyone on or near the machine while rotating the upper structure
during the lubrication process. Do not start up machine until all personnel are
a safe distance from the machine.
