NEW MACHINE BREAK-IN PROCEDURE
A new machine requires reduced operation speed AND loading during the
first 100 hours of operation to properly break-in various components.
If the
machine is subjected to hard use during the break-in period, damage may occur.
CHECK ALL FLUID LEVELS.

DEF Fluid Levels
Ÿ
Gearbox(es), Driveline(s) and Final Drive(s)
See
“Service & Maintenance Schedule”
for more information on fluid levels and
other inspection and service points. Pay particular attention to inspection and
service within the “Daily” or “8-Hour” intervals.
Within the first 100 hours of operation:
Ÿ
Start engine and idle for about 10 minutes.
This is to let all components and systems to
warm up properly.
Cummins recommends to NOT idle engine for more than 10 minutes.
If this machine is to be run in cold temperatures, BARKO recommends having a “Pre-Heat”
system installed. Contact your BARKO dealer for more information.
Ÿ
Operate machine at approx. 80% of maximum load.
Follow the steps in
“Machine Start-
Up”
section of this manual.
Ÿ
Operate machine as described in the “Operation” section in this chapter.
Know the
control functions, switches and monitors of this machine.
Ÿ
Periodically run components through full ranges of motion.
With a light load or no load,
fully extend and retract cylinders and perform complete rotation of bearings. This helps to
distribute lubrications and to seat bushings and bearings.
Ÿ
Perform all Inspections and Services per the “Service & Maintenance Schedule” within
the 100-hour break-in period.
Follow steps in “Machine Pre-Start Up” section of this manual.
This section
outlines steps to safe operating and a checklist to make sure you and your BARKO
machine are ready to run.
In BARKO machines equipped with a Cummins diesel engine, the engine
DOES NOT require a break-in procedure.
Follow the guidelines in
“Section 1 -
Operating Instructions”
in the Cummins Operation & Maintenance Manual
supplied with your BARKO machine.
