Software Updates
If your
NOOK
is not registered, you will not receive messages about software updates in
The Daily. You can download software updates from the support section of the
NOOK
website,
Software updates fix problems with the software. They also contain new features. Updates are
required. You can find out what an update contains at
Wireless Updates
Each time your registered
NOOK
turns on from fully off or synchronizes, it checks to determine
whether the software it is running is the latest available. It also checks immediately after registration.
If more current software is available and your
NOOK
can download it wirelessly, your
NOOK
downloads and installs the software. It displays a message that informs you that the update is
occurring. A restart is a part of the update process. Do not turn off your
NOOK
.
Prior to downloading the software update, your
NOOK
determines whether the wireless signal
strength is sufficient for the download.
Your nook might not be able to download the update wirelessly in these cases:
•
NOOK Wi-Fi
: Your
NOOK
is not connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot.
•
NOOK
(Wi-Fi + 3G model): Your
NOOK
is not connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot. Your NOOK
has also not detected a B&N Fast & Free Wireless network, or the update is too large to
download over the B&N Fast & Free Wireless network.
Some software updates
require
a Wi-Fi connection.
If your nook cannot download an
update wirelessly, you receive a message in The Daily that contains information about how
to connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot, and about how to obtain the update from
NOOK
using USB.
USB Updates
Some software updates must be downloaded over Wi-Fi or transferred to your
NOOK
using USB.
Software updates for unregistered
NOOK
s must be transferred using USB. You can obtain the
current software update from the website
. Information about how to
transfer the update to your
NOOK
using USB is also available from the website.
