The distance from the last screening contact point to the cabinet’s outlet must be very
short.

Screening
m
The cable screen is effective at magnetic fields, if the screen is connected to ground
on both ends.
m
A screening effect at electric fields is already existing, if the screen is connected only
single-sided to ground.
m
Fields with high frequencies always are electromagnetic fields. Thereby it does not
matter, if it is an electric or a magnetic field. Here screening must be made on both
sides.
Figure 17:
Cable installation - apply screen
m
Applying the screen to ground on both sides achieves that the cable remains in the
screening „system cabinet“.
m
The both-sided grounding of cable screenings nearly excludes an influence due to
ground loops (potential differences on the ground system).
m
The HF-connection of a screen with ground can also take place capacitively. This
avoids low-frequent errors due to ground loops.
Screening cables which pass different EMC ranges, may not be opened at the termi-
nals, because the screening attenuation otherwise decreases highly. They must, lead
to the next module without interruption.
