18.4 Analyzing Slide Result Reports
Once the slide result reports are printed, inspect the reports to determine the action required for
each slide. Each slide is given one of the following actions or categories:
•
Review
— The instrument detected potential cellular abnormalities, or there was not
enough cellular material detected on the slide for instrument analysis. These slides must be
reviewed by a cytotechnologist.
•
No Further Review
— These slides have the highest likelihood of being normal and can be
archived by the laboratory as being NILM.
•
Process Review
— These slides were rejected or not scanned satisfactorily. When slides
are rejected, or the scanning process is incomplete, a reason is printed on the report. Refer
to Section 21 for a description of these reasons. In some cases, the problem may be
corrected and the slide may be rerun. When a problem cannot be corrected, or if a slide
cannot be successfully reprocessed by the system, the slide must be manually screened by
a cytotechnologist.
•
Empty
— The system did not detect a slide in this tray position. Inspect the trays. If slides
are present in these positions, these slides must be manually screened.
•
Rerun
— The instrument was not functioning within normal limits when the slide was
processed, or the tray was ejected before the slide completed processing. These slides must
either be rerun when the instrument is functioning properly or manually screened.
•
New Mode
— The system detected a switch slide, indicating a switch to a new processing
mode.
