Local Alarm Wiring Conventions
The following section provides an overview of typical wiring conventions for
Local Alarm inputs and outputs (see figure 3-3 on page 3–12):
• Depending on the type of signal, the outputs from the Local Alarm to both of
the Master Alarms can either be wired individually or combined, refer to the
NFPA 99 standard, or CAN/CSA-Z305.1-92. If the outputs are combined,
they only register as one signal to both of the Master Alarms. The Local
Alarm has individual signals connected to each alarm input.
• Polarity is determined by the indicators on the MedPlus TotalAlert® Alarm
Network Local Alarm. Switches and contacts are not usually marked with
polarity indicators.
Refer to the wiring instructions from the manufacturer for specific switches and
relays.
• Polarity from the source equipment’s switches and relays must be maintained
to the Local Alarm.
• The wiring from the positive (+) output terminals from the Local Alarm must
be wired to the positive (+) input terminals on the Master Alarm Breakout
P.C. Boards, and the negative (-) output terminals to the negative (-) input ter-
minals.
