Chapter 3: Theory of Operation
Output Relay on Area Alarms
There is one dry-contact relay (MAIN ALARM) featured in the Area Alarm
Breakout P.C. Board that provides an output signal. This output can be wired to
satisfy either normally closed or normally open requirements from another sys-
tem.
• MAIN ALARM RELAY
•
When the Master Alarm is in alarm condition, this relay activates.
•
When the Master Alarm is silenced, this relay stays activated.
•
When the Master Alarm condition is remedied, this relay deactivates.
Ethernet Wiring Conventions
The MedPlus TotalAlert® Alarm Network can be connected to the facility’s
Ethernet (Intranet) enabling the appropriate personnel to gather information about
the alarm system from a personal computer. For information about how to set up
the Ethernet network, refer to the
MedPlus TotalAlert® Alarm Network—
Information System Requirements Technical Data Sheet
.
Some of the requirements when using the Ethernet with the MedPlus TotalAlert®
Alarm Network are as follows:
• The Master Alarms, Area Alarms, and any personal computers (PCs) used in
the alarm network must be connected to a common Ethernet system.
• The operating systems in the PCs must be either Windows® 98 (or above), or
Macintosh OS9 (or above).
• The PCs must have one of these two Internet browser software packages
installed: Netscape
Navigator
® 4 (or above) or Microsoft Internet
Explorer
® 4 (or above).
• The Area Alarms must be ordered with the optional Network
Communications Board. The Master Alarms are Ethernet-ready.
If the network communications option is implemented, you can browse, down-
load, configure, and troubleshoot Master Alarms and Area Alarms with a person-
al computer that is either connected to the facility’s Ethernet or connected to a
serial port on your personal computer (see “Configuring and Browsing the
Master Alarm by Using the Web Pages” on page 1–71). The alarm’s Web pages
are built-in; no setup is required.
