Chapter 6: General Procedures
Multiple MedPlus TotalAlert® Alarm Network Systems in the Same
Facility
When there are two or more alarm network systems, put them on different IP
sub-nets separated by a router; otherwise the separate alarm networks try to work
as one single alarm network system.
CAUTION:
When two or more MedPlus TotalAlert® Alarm Network systems are on
the same Ethernet network but not separated by a router, the alarm will
not operate as intended.
When two or more MedPlus TotalAlert® Alarm Networks are on the same
Ethernet system but different IP sub-nets that are not separated by a router, all
Master Alarms display “Lost” for the devices that are on different IP sub-nets.
One or two Master Alarms and at least one Area Alarm using the same IP sub-net
is considered one alarm network. To prevent this problem, put a router between
the alarm networks’ sub-nets.
If there are two alarm networks on different IP sub-nets that are separated by a
router, the alarm networks work like the following:
1. IP sub-net 1 includes the following:
a. Master Engineering
b. Master Security
c. Comms—East, CCU
2. IP sub-net 2 includes the following:
d. Master Surgery Center
e. Comms—North, OR, Zone 1
In this example, if an
Oxygen High
alarm occurs on “Comms—East, CCU,” only
“Master Engineering” and “Master Security” display “Oxygen High” on
“Comms—East, CCU.”
The “Master Surgery Center” only recognizes the “Comms—North, OR,
Zone 1,” because the Area Alarms send messages only to the Master Alarms that
are on their same IP sub-net.
