FAQ – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
9.1.
What indication is provided by the LED flashing RED after the self test ?
RED flashes of the LED indicate that the self test has failed, therefore the PLB will not operate in case
of an emergency.
9.2.
What indication is provided by the LED flashing Green after the self test ?
Green long flashes after the self test indicates that the test is passed. The PLB is ready for emer-
gency operation.
9.3.
What indication is provided by the LED flashing Yellow in Active mode ?
Yellow flashes of the LED indicate the status of the global position updates in the digital message:
3 short yellow flashes indicate that the position is being updated every 20 minutes,
1 short yellow flash indicates that the position has been updated within the last 4 hours,
And,
no yellow flashes indicate that the position is not provided in the messages being transmitted to the
satellites.
9.4.
What indication is provided by 3 “beeps” of the BUZZER ?
Every time the GPS engine obtains a valid position the PLB will shortly beep 3 times.
9.5.
What indication is provided by the LED flashing Green in Active mode ?
Green flashes in the active mode indicate that the PLB is transmitting the 406.028 and 121.5 emer-
gency signals.
9.6.
When do I need to send back my PLB to the maintenance center ?
Whenever the self test FAILS, or at battery expiry date, the PLB must be returned to an authorised
maintenance center. The beacon will be tested and reconditioned so that it can be used in emergen-
cies, at any time during the 5 years storage life.
9.7.
How do I know if my PLB is ready for use ?
The PLB must be tested every time a trip is intended. The self test shall be passed. (If FAIL, please
see above §9.6). Ensure that the self test is performed during the first 5 minutes of any hour. Avoid
performing more than one self test per month, on average. During long storage periods, a self test
every 3 or 4 month should be performed, in order to keep the PLB at its full operational condition.

In case of false alarm, switch the PLB OFF and inform immediately (or as soon as possible) your local
authorities.
