Basic function principles
EL6652(-0000) EtherNet/IP Master
The EL6652 EtherNet/IP-Master Terminal has a switched 2-port Ethernet connection and can thus be
operated in a line with further Ethernet/IP nodes. The process data are configured by an EtherCAT master,
allowing different process data and sizes. The EL6652 supports both multicast and unicast connections. Up
to 16 simple EtherNet/IP-Slave devices can be connected via one generic node. The EL6652 is optionally
also available as a slave version.
Configuration
The configuration is carried out in several steps. The terminal must be contained in the EtherCAT master
(e.g. TwinCAT) as EL6652 in the EtherCAT tree. Furthermore an additional device must be created in order
to provide this terminal with the parameters and with configuration data (
EL6652-0010 EtherNet/IP Slave
The EtherNet/IP Slave terminal enables the exchange of data with an EtherNet/IP scanner or a master. Both
Multicast and Unicast are supported. In addition, the terminal can behave like two EtherNet/IP slave devices.
The second slave is a virtual slave. This enables you to connect two masters together or one master with
two slaves and, for example, to transport more data or to operate with different polling times on the master.
The maximum process data in both directions is 1 kbyte.
The terminal is an EtherCAT slave device and is configured via the EtherCAT master. The IP settings as well
as the number and types of data items are defined here. The terminal behaves on the EtherNet/IP side as a
slave device in the EtherNet/IP network. No further configuration is necessary via the EtherNet/IP master. A
connection can only be successfully established if the EtherCAT master is running and in data exchange
mode; only then can the EtherNet/IP master also establish a connection.
Configuration
The configuration takes place in several steps. The terminal must be contained in the EtherCAT master (e.g.
TwinCAT) as EL6652-0010 in the EtherCAT tree. Furthermore an additional device must be created in order
to provide this terminal with the parameters and with configuration data (
and
). Once this is completed and the EtherCAT master is in data exchange mode, the
configuration takes place in the EtherNet/IP Master/Scanner.

We recommend downloading the latest
from the download area on the
Beckhoff website and installing it according to the installation instructions.
The process image is freely configurable. In this way it is possible to reduce the process data for internal
application to a minimum.
