Study the smallest text on the image closely, and try to gain a setting that keeps the
characters intact (no gaps on the character strokes). At the same time, make sure the
character has not become enlarged so that the strokes merge together, causing gaps to
be filled in. In general, the lower the sensitivity value, the more likely the character
will have gaps. The higher the sensitivity value, the more likely the character will
become filled. If the character is particularly small, you may need to increase the
resolution setting of the scanner to get the desired results.
•
When using the scanner for ICR/OCR only, the image you perceive to be the best by
eye may not be the best for data reading. Background noises on the document may
not affect the ICR/OCR rate, but can look bad on the host PC monitor. Try to keep
the characters to a quality where they are not filled or have gaps. If using ICR/OCR,
then try to pick documents with the “best” and “worst” contrast. Sometimes you have
to compromise to get the best overall results. If the ICR/OCR package needs to be
calibrated to an image, remember to do this after any major adjustments to the ACE
mode.
•
Always try other ACE modes.
NOTE:
Always test all ACE modes. The descriptions provided here are loose guidelines.
Scanning actual documents and evaluating the results in your imaging system to
ensure your desired results is recommended.
