INTERLUDE NUANCES
•
AC outlets
: Besides the AC circuit breaker switch on the electrical panel at the Nav station,
there’s
a master outlet switch located under the Nav table. This must be
“
ON
”
for the outlets to
work. They can be turned off accidently when removing or replacing the VHF remote, next to
the switch.
•
Bow thruster
: The engine must be running for the thruster to work. Operate thrusters in short
bursts when maneuvering in tight spaces. The controller is activated by pressing both left (
red
)
and right (
green
) buttons simultaneously. Right (
green
) button moves the bow to the
right
, left
(
red
) button moves the bow to the
left
. Turn off when done by simultaneously pressing both
buttons. The thruster turns
itself off after 15 minutes of inactivity (you’ll hear a “beep” tone).
•
Cabin hatch
: The companionway has a sliding top panel and two doors; all must be closed to
lock the hatch. The sliding panel lifts over the top edge of the doors. To open, lift the top panel
slightly and slide it back. Release the locking bolt at the bottom of starboard door. To lock, move
the starboard door bolt to the closed position, then slide hatch forward, lifting it over the top of
the closed doors. Lock the hatch with the key (gently press the doors toward the lock to fully
engage).
•
Draft
:
Interlude
’s
draft is 7’2”,
making her a joy to maneuver but also makes her susceptible to
rock strikes! Please monitor
your depth among the islands and follow San Juan Sailing’s
guidelines for areas to avoid.
•
Electric swim platform
: The swim platform has a sliding lock bolt located on the starboard end.
Press the button on the bolt and slide it back to unlock. The operating switch is on the starboard
helm. Simultaneously press the
red
button and toggle the
black
rocker switch down/up to
open/close the platform. Close the bolt lock to secure the platform in the up position. There is a
remote-control fob stored in the Nav table.
•
Fuel and water
: The access ports for the fuel tank (
pink
) and the aft water tank (
blue
, Tank 1) are in
the propane locker. The fill port for the forward water tank (
blue
, Tank 2) is located on the forward
port deck. The caps are keyed, not screw-in. Use the small winch handle to rotate the caps then lift
off. The valves for selecting water tanks are in the engine compartment. When you switch tanks,
you may hear the water pump running for a minute or two as it pressurizes the water lines.
•
Heads and holding tanks
: Both heads are equipped with electric raw water toilets and 20-gallon
holding tanks. Pump-out access ports are on the starboard deck above each head. The caps
screw out/in to open/close. Use the small winch handle to unscrew/screw-in the caps.
Don’t
overtighten.
•
Prop walk
: Almost non-existent, a bit to starboard in reverse.
•
Storing the fenders and dock lines
: We stow one docking fender and the white roving fender
and bow line in the forward anchor chain locker. The remaining fenders and dock lines are
stored in the port cockpit lazarette.
•
Throttle and saildrive
: When shifting from reverse to forward, pause for a moment in neutral
then shift to idle forward before shifting into full forward; this will keep the transmission from
slipping, which can sometimes happen if you “goose” the engine too quickly
.
