Contex SD4400

The SD4400 series scanner actually performed pretty
close to manufacturer’s specification, and all models had
no problem in delivering the expected speed at all
resolutions from 100 dpi to 600 dpi.
GRAYSCALE PERFORMANCE
Technically speaking, the scanner speed in grayscale and
black and white should be identical. Again the
performance is close to the manufacturer’s specification.
The scanning performance is the same speed as with
black and white.

For graytone scanning, the scanners delivered the
promised speed and there is no USB 2.0 bottleneck in the
systems. We contribute this to the Contex USB 2.0 xDTR
technology that increases the USB 2.0 throughput from
approx 18MB/sec to 32MB/sec, which is the fastest USB
2.0 connection we have seen among wide-format
scanners.
COLOR PERFORMANCE
Contex’s improved USB 2.0 connection speed helps in
reaching the claimed performance for the SD series. Even
for the top-of-the-line SD4490, we saw virtually no
problem in the scanning ranges from 100 dpi to 600 dpi.
Our conclusion is that with a fast enough computer, you
can drive these scanners to their maximum performance.
The overall speed result for the SD4400 series is
excellent, and only at 600 dpi with the scanners at full
speed did we see a little drop in performance.
