3.12.7 Check of crankcase/cylin-
der gasket thickness
The thickness of the gasket between the cylinder
and crankcase must be checked every time the
following are replaced:
∙
Cylinder;
∙
Piston;
∙
Crankshaft;
∙
Connecting rod;
∙
Crankcase.
The check is necessary as such thickness affects
the engine performances. This check must be car-
ried out using specific calibrated plates set-out in
the table.
The use of the plates is described below.
∙
Rest the specific plate making sure it comes
into contact with the cylinder’s upper surface.
∙
Bring the piston to top dead centre and, us-
ing a thickness gauge, check play between the
piston and plate is between 0÷0.10mm.
If play between piston and plate is higher by
0.10mm, reduce the cylinder/crankcase gasket
thickness and carry out the test again.
