14 Fault finding
The supply voltage must be switched off at all poles before the junction box cover
is removed and before each instance where the pump is removed.
Fault
Cause
Remedy
1. Motor does not
start when switched
on
a) Power supply disconnected.
Connect the power supply.
b) Circuit breakers cut out.
Correct the fault and cut in the
circuit breakers.
c) External fuse blown
Replace fuse
d) Motor defective.
Repair or replace the motor.
2. Motor starts up
but switches off
again immediately
a) Pressure transducer fault
Replace pressure transducer.
Pressure transducers with an
output signal of 4-20 mA are
monitored
b) Dry running or no inlet
pressure.
The operating pressure is not
reached
Check the water supply to the
pump. If the inlet pressure is
re-established, the pumps will
switch on again after 15 seconds.
The fault message continues to be
displayed
3. Unstable system
water delivery rate
a) Insufficient inlet pressure
in the system
Check suction line and (if
necessary) strainer
b) Dirty suction
line/pumps
Clean suction line/pumps
c) Pumps sucking in air
Check suction line for leaks
d) Faulty pressure transmitter
Replace pressure transmitter
4. Pumps running
but not conveying
any water
a) Suction line/pumps blocked
due to contamination
Clean suction line/pumps
b) Non-return valve jammed
closed
Clean non-return valve. The
non-return valve should be able to
move freely
c) Leak in the suction line
Check suction line for leaks
d) Air in the suction line/pumps
Bleed the pumps.
Check suction line for leaks
e) Motors running the wrong way
Call out the Biral service team
5. Leak at the shaft
seal
a) Faulty shaft seal
Replace shaft seal
Call out the Biral service team
b) Incorrect pump shaft height
setting
Correct the height setting of the
pump shaft.
Call out the Biral service team
