2.3. Purpose
•
This wheelchair features push rims, an adjustable backrest ranging
from 0° to 44° and legrests that can be inclined until they are in
a horizontal position, and it is intended to be used as a means for
transporting invalid individuals and for making it easier to provide
wheelchair users with nursing care.
•
As a means for transporting invalid individuals, the wheelchair
serves to increase the mobility and transport of people with
impaired mobility, and it enables them to be transported in a nearly
horizontal position.
•
As a disability aid, the wheelchair facilitates the transport of people
with impaired mobility; it makes it easier for caregivers to provide
assistance; it assists caregivers with their activities while reducing
the physical burden of providing care.
•
The push rims also enable the person in need of care to propel the
wheelchair by themselves, like when they want to change their
position in a room.
•
The maximum load is 130kg for Protego and 150 kg for Protego SL.
2.4. Indications
Indications for use as a means for transporting invalid indi-
viduals:
Inability to walk or severe walking disability as a result of:
•
paralysis
•
loss of limbs
•
meromelia/limb deformation
•
joint contractures/joint damage
•
other ailments
But it can also be used by people who can propel and steer the
wheelchair by themselves using the push rims. Moreover, it is suitable
when a nearly horizontal position is intermittently required, like in
situations where the patient shows signs of orthostatic hypotension.
Indications for use as a disability aid:
Using this wheelchair with push rims, a seat tilt and manual seat
adjustment is indicated when it is not possible to have the person in
need of care sit upright for a long time in a conventional wheelchair
due to his or her physical condition and the person in need of care
needs to spend a long period of time in a wheelchair.
2.5. Contraindications
Use of the wheelchair is not suitable for:
•
perception disorders
•
severe disturbances of equilibrium
•
loss of limbs on both arms
•
contractures/damage to joints on both arms
•
inability to sit
•
reduced or insufficient eyesight
It is not suitable to use the wheelchair as a disability aid when a
patient has:
•
inability to sit
2.6. Declaration of conformity
As the manufacturer of the product B+B declares Protego and Protego
SL wheelchairs meet the requirements of Directive 93/42/EEC in full.
2.7. Responsibility
We are only able to provide a warranty if the product is used in
accordance to the specified conditions and for the intended purposes.
If modifications, repairs or maintenance works are made, please make
sure only authorised persons perform these works in accordance to the
instructions of B+B.
