5. Use
5.1. Entering and leaving from the
side
•
Move the wheelchair as close as possible to the present or future
seat so they are side by side.
•
If you wish to move from another wheelchair or room chair, lock it
by setting the parking brakes.
•
Secure the Protego against rolling away accidentally by activating
the parking brake.
•
Pivot the armrest backwards and away, or remove the side part with
the armrest.
•
Fold the foot plates/footrest to the side or remove the leg rests.
•
Now slide sideways onto the other seat.
•
Make sure that you are sitting as far back in the seat as possible.
•
Finally, return the leg rest to their original position and reinsert the
side parts if necessary.
5.2. Entering and leaving from the
front
•
First fold the foot plates up or remove the leg rests.
•
Move the Protego and the current or intended seat together front
to front if possible and decelerate the Protego.
•
If you wish to move from another wheelchair or room chair, lock it
by setting the parking brakes.
•
Now slide onto the seat by turning your body around.
•
Then move the arm rest and leg rests to the original position.
Never stand on the footrest!

5.3. Negotiating stairs and high
steps
For obstacles and stairs with more than three steps,
two accompanying people shall help you.
•
The helpers shall take hold only at securely mounted parts of
the frame. The lifting points are depicted in Figures 44 and 45,
depending on how the model is equipped.
•
When going up any stairs, the helper behind the wheelchair pulls
the wheelchair over the step, holding it at the securely mounted
handles.
•
The helper who is below takes hold of the front frame tubes and
stabilises the position. At the same time, he pushes the rear wheels
of the wheelchair against the steps.
Never stand on the footrest!
