When you pull down the Security menu and select Switch Control, the dialog box
shown in Figure 6-22 appears.
Figure 6-22. The Switch Control dialog box.
This box is only meaningful if the ServLINK is attached to a regular Universal User
Interface Card (KV2500C) with a firmware revision more recent than 9/25/99
installed in a ServSwitch Multi. (This User Card is the type with no on-screen
display, referred to internally by the ServLINK and the ServSwitch Multi as an
“XPLU.”)
In this situation, for additional security, you can click the top checkbox to
disable switching between PCs from the ServLINK’s keyboard. While keyboard
switching is disabled, the normal keyboard macros that appear in the PC Settings:
Switch Box Command list (see
Section 6.1.1.B
) disappear and are replaced by “SL
Ctrls XPLU Switching”: The ServLINK uses a special protocol, rather than
keyboard commands, to switch between PCs on the ServSwitch Multi system. This
makes it virtually impossible for a non-supervisor user to access any computer they
wouldn’t normally have access to.
You can now go a step further and click the bottom checkbox; this causes the
ServLINK to look for a particular file in order to define PC switching for such
users. This is intended for use at sites with sophisticated software-based security
controls; for more information, please consult on-line help for this function.
