OVERVIEW
Ideal for computer and network installers, the BLACK BOX
®
PC Cable Quick Check Pro is an affordable universal tester for
more than 20 types of cables, including PS/2, S-Video, coax,
telephone, USB, and serial.
Each side of the tester contains a BNC coax connector, 4-pin
mini-DIN and 6-pin mini-DIN connectors, an RJ-45 jack (which is
also used to test RJ-11 and RJ-12 cables), 4-pin USB Type A and
Type B connectors, 5-pin mini USB connectors, and 4-pin and
6-pin FireWire connectors.
The tester’s front panel contains pairs of serial connectors,
including DB9, DB15, HD15, and DB25, plus one Centronics
®
connector.
The tester identifies open, shorted, and cross-connected
wires, and it provides full wire mapping of cabling systems.
Use it, for instance, to run simple pass/fail tests on RG-58/59
BNC cables and, if they fail, rely on the PC Cable Quick Check
Pro to give you a full diagnostic evaluation.
The PC Cable Quick Check Pro accurately tests cables up
to 50 feet (15.2 m) long and even works on production-built
cable assemblies. Cable manufacturing companies can use it
to perform “go/no-go” testing to ensure that the end product
is wired to perform as promised.
The PC Cable Quick Check Pro features auto scan mode
and manual scan mode (for manually testing each pin on a
connector). Testing is simple. You just:
• Attach each end of the cable to both sides of the tester
or to both matching connectors on the front panel.
• Press a Cable Mode button until the chosen connector‘s
LED indicates the selection.
• Hold the Test button down for 5 seconds.
Wiring results display quickly, with feedback provided
through its easy-to-read with LED indicator lights. For
confirming the wiring configuration of the tested cable,
the user manual includes a quick-reference list of standard
cable applications and wiring configurations.
The tester comes with a 9-volt battery and, to preserve
battery life, it has automatic shutoff feature. Power shuts off
after 30 seconds of non-use.
Designed for heavy use in the field, the rugged unit has
a built-in handle for carrying site to site. And to keep the PC
Cable Quick Check Pro from slipping or falling over during
testing, the bottom has rubber feet that grip to a desk or
workbench.
