Converter Setup Utility
The Blackmagic Converters Setup utility can be used to change settings such as aspect ratio,
and update your Mini Converter’s software. All utility settings are maintained, even when the
Mini Converter is switched off. You can access these settings by moving between the ‘video,’
‘audio,’ and ‘about’ tabs.
The ‘about’ tab is detailed in the ‘changing settings’ section in this manual.
The ‘video’ tab for Mini Converter UpDownCross HD contains the following settings:
Use the ‘video’ tab in Converters Setup to select an SD aspect ratio.
Aspect Ratio for Standard Definition
Select an option for the aspect ratio of the SD output. You can choose 4:3 pillar boxed or 16:9.
For example, if your input video is SD 4:3 then selecting 4:3 will output 4:3 pillar boxed to
maintain the original 4:3 aspect ratio inside the 16:9 frame. However, if your input video is
SD 16:9 select the 16:9 option to output a direct 16:9 conversion.
The default aspect ratio setting in the setup utility will output
SD video as pillar boxed 4:3, however, you can set the converter
to maintain a 16:9 ratio if required by selecting the 16:9 option on
the ‘video’ tab of the setup utility.
