This section contains all the important information you need to maintain the AIRSKIN® Safetyflange. The AIRSKIN®
Safetyflange is a low-maintenance product whose operating life can be extended by means of straightforward
(regular) maintenance.
10.1 Safety instructions for maintenance
This is where you can find general information which must be paid attention to when it comes to any maintenance
or servicing job.
Pay attention to safety instructions!
AIRSKIN® has no safety and protection function if it is not used as an active safety func-
tion for the system. One should proceed here with the robot/system as if the latter had no
AIRSKIN®, which equates with a significant potential hazard.
EMERGENCY-Stop button if AIRSKIN® is not in operation
Maintenance and servicing jobs on AIRSKIN® where AIRSKIN® is not used as an active
safety function for the system – but the robot/system must nevertheless be moved – must
only be carried out by trained specialists.
If AIRSKIN® is used as an active safety function for the system, straightforward maintenance jobs can also be
carried out by regular personnel because this presents no danger to them. Switching off or bypassing AIRSKIN®
as an active safety feature for the purposes of maintenance must only be carried out by trained specialists. All
of the following jobs (regardless of their nature) that are performed on the system, robot and AIRSKIN® must
likewise only be performed by trained specialists.

When performing trial runs, always maintain adequate safety
distance to any moving parts.
Inadequate identification of the inac-
tivity of AIRSKIN® as a safety feature
The robot/system must only be used without AIRSKIN® by
trained specialists. Clear identification via barrier tape and a
warning notice is required.
Unsuitable spare parts
You should only use parts designated in the maintenance and
spare parts lists (see
Unauthorized approval of the system
Without AIRSKIN®, do not approve the machine for operation as
being fully functional and possessing active safety features.
